andrei fursov

In 2013 the popular Russian historian Andrey Fursov gave an interview in which he explained why president Putin and most of the people in Russia consider the fall of the Soviet Union (the USSR) a catastrophe.

As you may have heard Putin’s exact words on the subject were that the collapse of the Soviet Union was “the biggest geopolitical catastrophe of the century”. And many people in Russia (and in other countries) also believe that.

In this short segment of the interview Fursov explains the role of weak leaders like Gorbachev and Yeltsin, the consequences of the fall of the USSR and how it also affected other former Soviet countries and allies.

The initial question of the journalist is about Fursov’s opinion on Putin and the Russian leadership, however, he had to give the historical retrospect.

It’s important for people to understand his position.
